Silicone materials
Silicone materials and their characteristics:
Silicone rubber has many unique good qualities thanks to which silicone rubber can be used extensively for different applications.
Silicone rubber hardness
The hardness area of silicone rubber is wide: 20 – 90 ShA. The higher is the hardness value, the harder will be the product. Instead, the especially soft materials (20 ShA) are used, for example, for sealing boxes that do not allow formation of hard pressing.
Use temperature
Silicone rubber also has a wide use temperature. Regular qualities retain their properties between -50 oC and +200 oC. Special qualities reach resistance to -90 oC. With additional materials, thermal resistance can be increased even up to 300 oC. Silicone rubber can be used, among other things, in gaskets of sterilization devices.
Resistance to oil and chemicals
Silicone rubbers also include qualities that resist oil and chemicals. This way they can withstand a limited amount of acids and bases, among other things.
Conducting silicone rubber
Conducting silicone rubber can be used for EMI-shielding. In addition, from a conducting material various sealings can be produced with an extruder or mould gaskets with a compression moulding press.
Silicone rubber colouring
Colouring of the silicone rubber is easy. Silicone rubber colours are silicone based and certain tones from the RAL colour chart are available ready-to-use. In addition, by following the formula, colours can be mixed if the ready-to-use tones are not suitable.
Resistance to ozone and UV light
Silicone rubber has a good resistance to ozone and UV light thanks to which silicone products preserve their colour and elasticity even in strong sunlight.
Flame resistance
Flame resistant silicone rubbers include qualities with different classification. Flame resistant silicones with especially high classification (BS standard) do not release poisonous gases. Ceramic powder will form on their surface during burning, protecting the rubber from being destroyed completely. These silicone rubber elements are used, for example, in underground railways.
FDA and BFR approval
Silicone rubber products have the FDA and BFR approvals, which allows the use of these products, for example, in contact with skin and food or food production devices. Silicone rubber is biologically inert.
